[Provided by Roy Communications] Epic Games announced the results of the 2021 Epic MegaGrants awards.

Epic Games Korea, the Korean branch of Epic Games, which develops games and provides everything for the Unreal Engine, store, and digital creation ecosystem, announced on the 16th that more than 400 new projects received Epic MegaGrants funding this year.

As a result, the Epic MegaGrants, which started in 2019 with a total amount of $100 million (approximately 117.6 billion KRW), have now supported more than 1,600 projects in 89 countries worldwide.

The Epic MegaGrants is a funding program designed to support developers and development teams creating creative and outstanding content with Unreal Engine or enhancing open-source functionality for the 3D graphics community. It is a pure developer support program with no conditions or restrictions on IP ownership, publishing, or funding repayment. Selected projects receive grants ranging from a minimum of $5,000 (approximately 5.9 million KRW) to a maximum of $500,000 (approximately 590 million KRW).

This year's award-winning projects included impressive initiatives ranging from dinosaur survival games to fashion design platforms applicable in the metaverse.

In South Korea, more than ten projects across various industries, including indie games, console and PC platform games, TV animations, and animated films, were selected for the MegaGrants.

Among the newly awarded domestic development companies this year were Studio EON, SAMG Entertainment, Lee Dae-hee Animation Studio, and 302Planet in the media and entertainment sector, along with game developers such as Shift Up, Nyou, Turtle Cream, Jakdu Studio, and 511 Games.

Studio EON successfully produced the children's tokusatsu TV show 'Armored Saurus' by establishing a pipeline that leverages the power of Unreal Engine, including real-time rendering and virtual production. 'Armored Saurus,' which tells the story of fighting against an alien mechanical dinosaur army by controlling dinosaur robots equipped with advanced mechanical suits, is currently popular on terrestrial TV and OTT platforms such as Netflix and Watcha.

SAMG Entertainment is using Unreal Engine in its pipeline to produce 'Mini Force Animaltron,' the latest sequel to the 3D animation 'Mini Force,' which has garnered over 30 billion views globally.

Lee Dae-hee Animation Studio used Unreal Engine to produce the feature-length animated film 'Iron Daddy.' 'Iron Daddy' is a sci-fi action movie by director Lee Dae-hee, known for animations like 'Stress Zero' and 'Padak Padak,' about a father who transforms into a robot to save his daughter and fights against villains.

302Planet, known for participating in the production of 3D animations like 'Yumi's Cells,' 'Pororo: Dinosaur Island Adventure,' and 'Super Wings Season 2,' is working on an Unreal Engine-based animation project.

Shift Up is developing 'Project Eve' using Unreal Engine. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, 'Project Eve' features a female protagonist who fights intense battles for humanity. The game is characterized by its intense combat and profound narrative and is scheduled for release in 2022.

Nyou was honored for 'Project N1,' a PC MMORPG using Unreal Engine. 'Project N1' aims for the global market, featuring a high-quality, realistic art style, a seamless open world, rich content, and storytelling to provide an immersive player experience.

Turtle Cream developed the experimental and abstract dungeon crawler RPG 'RP7' using Unreal Engine. 'RP7' features a unique gameplay style where players roll seven slots on the screen to set future scenarios instead of directly controlling their character.

Jakdu Studio's 'Night of the Dead,' developed with Unreal Engine, is a survival building defense game where the protagonist Lucy, who wakes up in a zombie-infested city after being subjected to human experimentation, must fend off zombie waves at night and escape the isolated area by communicating with a group of survivors.

511 Games developed 'Endless Escape' using Unreal Engine. This rogue-like game requires players to escape from a maze-like castle with a dreamy, dark background concept by avoiding various traps with simple controls. Once a player dies, they must start over from the beginning.

Park Seong-cheol, CEO of Epic Games Korea, said, "Epic Games supports numerous talented developers worldwide to realize their dreams and continue creating amazing works through the Epic MegaGrants." He added, "Congratulations to the domestic developers and studios awarded this year's Epic MegaGrants. We hope more developers in Korea will unleash their boundless creativity through the most advanced creation platform, Unreal Engine."
